This year is the 25th Anniversary of Springboard’s FutureChef which, from humble beginnings with anine schools in NW London, has evolved into the UK’s largest cookery programme for secondary schools, inspiring young people through a national competition and a suite of educational resources and activities.
It all started twenty-five years ago, with nine schools in NW London taking part in a small cookery competition run by industry charity Springboard. They say ‘big oaks from little acorns grow’ – and this can certainly be said of FutureChef.
There was a real buzz in the kitchen at Capital City College, Westminster on Monday 23 March, as twelve young finalists gathered for the Springboard FutureChef National Final where they served up skill, confidence, and a clear message for the future of food. Knives were sharpened, choux pastry was piped, humble vegetables got starring roles, and the pressure was very definitely on.
