Treloar’s and the royal seal of approval

From her early involvement with the Royal family the Countess of Wessex has had a strong interest in the provisions for people with disabilities and embracing opportunities for young people. She champions local organisations such as Disability Initiative in Surrey and national charities such as the NSPCC. One of those is Treloar’s, the Hampshire school for severely disabled children that was established by a former Lord Mayor of London and is one of the main beneficiary rise of the Cooks’ charity.

FutureChef triumphs again!

This year’s FutureChef Programme was a huge success with over 500 school participating across the whole of the programme and reaching over 24,000 young people. This included FutureChef Juniors & BakeOff, the FutureChef Competition and a programme of Culinary Career Sessions.

Lakefield to Expand Activity to Enrich Student Learning

Having seen the positive impact on students from leading industry figures, like the recent visits from Freeman Steve Munkley and industry legends Diego Masciaga and Ricardo Pimentel, Lakefield are planning to increase their focus on positive industry collaboration, helped by a Charity grant of £12,000 in 2023-24 – which includes match funding from City & Guilds.

Cooks Support Ceserani Scholarship

Victor Ceserani was one of the UK’s most inspirational catering educationalists and decades of students have relied on his book ’Practical Cookery’ as their bible. The Cooks Charity was approached by the Ceserani Foundation for funding to enable them to increase the number of grants they give through their Scholarship scheme.

Cooks Back ‘No Going Back’

The Worshipful Company of Cooks, through the Cooks Charity, joined 40 other Livery Companies last year in a groundbreaking collaboration to reduce re-offending called No Going Back. Since its launch as a pilot in 2020, NGB has thrived and been nurtured to success and has now become its own independent charity.

Only A Pavement Away’s stated mission is ‘Stability through Employment,’ providing pathways for people facing homelessness into employment within the hospitality industry. OAPA achieves this through connecting forward thinking hospitality employers with charities supporting clients facing homelessness, and/or leaving prison, offering them career opportunities, training, and development.

Hospitality Action has seen applications to their support services remain consistently high, as more workers turn to them at a time when the cost of living is pushing many to the brink.
